Fifty in 50: Week 6

Inspired by the leaf bib necklace,  I decided to make some fun playful earrings.
With more colors and shapes to come I just adore how simple these earrings are yet they can not be ignored.

Stay tuned for updates...

Inspirations: Barcelona, Spain

I would wake up and go straight to the balcony and just take it all in.
Since I have returned to my studio cove (I will explain in a later post) I've had an urge to incorporate more wire/metal as a major design element. Why, might you ask? Barcelona is the answer. With the Sagrada Familia to my right and a beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea in the distance, this is what I saw everyday for 12 days during my stay there. I felt no matter where I was the sea had a huge influence on the architecture and layout of this mesmerizing city.

National Museum of Art of Catalunya
A trip to the National Museum of Art of Catalunya sealed the deal for me and further influenced my ideas of what wearable art means to me.There was some Piccaso, Dali and Gauguin OH MY!
Seeing all the Romanesque and Medieval art work, I noticed they used lots of golds and rich powerful colors and that really made an impression on me as well as all the fine details. I could have stared at the paintings, metal work and sculptures all day. My jewelry has taken on the organic shapes of the architecture and the richness and metal work of its art. Thank you Barcelona!

Look at all the lace detail.

View from the museum
Oh Food, I love to eat so I have to share one of my favorite meals I had there.Yummm.
Salmon and shrimp perfectly seasoned with crusty bread and a light squeeze of lemon. You can't tell me that doesn't look good.

Fifty in 50: Week 4+5

Inspired by Week 2 I came up with this sketch.

This will take more than a week to complete so I will continually add updates to this post.

Im very excited about this one.
Stay tuned!

**UPDATE** 10/25
All the leather and copper wire pieces to create the bib necklace have been cut and manipulated. the copper pieces on the biggest leaf didn't work for me so I decided to either etch a motif on them or use paint. All the pieces are free and I have not connected them yet because I would like to add a treatment to the metal.
The treatments I like most are...
1. darken the metal to give an antique look.
2. patina finish to give a tarnished aged feel.

hmmmm, what to do?

**UPDATE** 10/30
So, I didn't like the copper with the taupe leather so I found another color that worked a lot better. Doesn't the copper just POP! The leather is green with an iridescent finish, so at a certain angle it looks like a royal blue or teal. I love it.

Here is what it looks like when its done but with out the chain.

I also did one with gray and silver

I am also thinking about adding little earring post that could be purchased as a set.

There is more to come, I need to complete the taupe piece that I started with.
This project is a lot of fun and work. The part where I have to sew the pieces together with wire is very tedious but the final product is exactly what I envisioned.
I love when a plan comes together :)
**UPDATE** 11/1
After a long debate (with myself) and many errors, I painted a design and I LOVE the outcome. The detail does not over power the other elements so the design stays classy with out leaning towards gaudiness. Yay! Final pics to come.

Fifty in 50: Week 2 & 3

Week 2
So I lagged a little on posting sorry about that, but as we all know life gets in the way sometimes.
Here she is... and yes all my pieces are female. lol
More peacock of course, I am on a roll.
But which option do you like over the other?
With or without the feather?
I am in love with the added wire detail. Look for it in many designs to come. Inspired by my trip to the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya.
*more detail in a later post.

Playing around with this designs element a little more.

Week 3
Moving away from the peacock and being inspired by the leather once again. Here is a quick video of my process in creating the earrings. I feel the wire adds more design elements, structure and classiness to my jewelry.
What do you think?

Home Sweet Home and "The Challenge" Week1

So, I'm back!
Traveling is good for the soul I tell ya. Everyone should try and take some time out and discover what this world has to offer, it will blow you away and leave a permanent smile on your face. I will be posting pictures of my travels/jewelry inspirations through out the upcoming weeks as well as embarking on a new challenge. This challenge will be "THE"...hmmm, I'll get back to the name later, but it will motivate me to create more and share my progress with you guys as often as I can.

Oh, Got it! I will call it "Fifty in 50"
Fifty designs in 50 weeks

No matter how big or small the project is I will announce it and post updates through out my progress.
This will be fun, it will keep me on my toes for sure and get my creative juices flowing.

Since this is Dienstag/Tuesday there is no better time than to start now!

This necklace actually started with disaster!
This culprit here knocked over all my feathers. Grrrrr!

Not all were damaged but in order to save some of the tangled ones i had to cut the ends off and that action birthed this beauty...

Fifty in 50: Week 1 Black Peacock necklace
It has a leather backing to preserve the integrity of the feather while also giving durability.

Who says feathers are only for summer!?

Traveling: Deutschland

Hey all I'm out of town and wanted to share my love for my temporary "studio" space. I am digging the view and with all the table space and open windows its definitely helping to generate those creative juices.

I was so inspired by nature that I used the shadow
of the plants in the window to start ummmm, what ever this will develop into.

Here's my progress after 4 days it's coming out quite lovely if I say so myself but I'm not done yet. I've taken many breaks in those 4 days, there is a lot of detail involved and with no direction I'm just letting things flow.

I am now opening the doors for customization for the up coming seasons.
The design selected in this custom series are one of my best sellers.
Originally offered in these colorways:

Every earring will be different because of the uniqueness  of each feather and the fact that they are made by hand, I feel that element alone gives each earring extra character ;)
For the up and coming seasons I would like give a couple more options.

         Fall  Winter

Leather swatches will also be presented in all available colors and textures. I am interested in seeing the creative color combinations people will come up with.
